Ever wondered where Maryland got its name?  Is it the Marriest place in the world or did someone name Mary first discover the land?  The true story behind the name began in the year 1632. Lord Baltimore made a request for a land charter from the King of Britain seeking a colony for relgious freedom and civil liberties. When King Charles I granted the territory to Lord Baltimore, he gave specific orders for the name of this colony. It was to be named after his beloved Queen Mary. In her honor, the colony was give the name Maryland.
