It was also a temporary capitol of the U.S. from 1783-1784. Bethesda is the location fo the National Institute of Health and was placed second on a 2009 Forbes list of “America’s most livable cities.” Cambridge is the port city and one of the oldest colonial cities in Maryland. Thurmont is the site of the presidential retreat at Camp David.
